Dad Goes To Prison For Daughter's Cocaine Death

Full story: NBC 4

The father of a 3-year-old Wilmington girl who died after ingesting cocaine allegedly left around the house pleaded guilty Tuesday to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to nearly nine years in prison. Guillermo Elizarraraz, 34, also pleaded guilty to two counts of felony child endangerment. His sentence of eight years and eight months was the midterm of guidelines, said Deputy District Attorney Allen Fields, who runs the Long Beach branch of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. On Aug. 10, 2002, Victoria Elizarraraz found powdered cocaine wrapped in paper and ate some of it. She died nine days later after being taken off life support. Seven other children were removed from the home and taken into protective custody in the aftermath of the tragedy.
