Deputies subdue defendant after verdict

After Mallia read the verdict, Russell asked the judge to poll the jury of eight women and four men. As each juror affirmed the verdict, Barnes stepped out from behind a table cursing about the life sentence he apparently knew would apply. As members of both his and Gaines’ families looked on in tears, deputies surrounded Barnes and, after a brief struggle, cuffed him. Barnes remained quiet until deputies led him out of the courtroom, at which point he turned to the prosecutors and said, “You son of a bitch.”Posted by stupefied
