Plea Agreement Reached In Leopard-print Thong Case

Bernard Curtis, 33, of Newport, entered an Alford plea to the felony charge of sexual assault. By entering the Alford plea, Curtis maintains he is innocent but accepts the consequences of the agreement as in his best interest. The charge carried a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. According to the affidavit, police said Curtis attacked and assaulted a 25-year-old woman on Sept. 14, 2001, on the trails around South Beach on Lake Willoughby in Westmore.
